About
The general topic of my research is the image of the Antiquity in the second half of the eighteenth century. More particularly I'm interested on the tensions between classicist attitudes and an emergent historicism as they are visible in different contexts and countries. My dissertation deals with the works of Jose Marchena, a Spanish writer living and working in Paris during most of his life, so that my focus has been mainly on French and Spanish culture. More recently I started to be interested also on the German academic milieu. The object of my research so far has been political discourse (the French Revolution), libertine literature and art, and to a lesser extent antiquarian culture.
